Paperwork reports that Yoseph entered Numan Orphanage Center on March 5th, 2011. One year ago today a small, malnourished infant became an orphan and then only 9 months after that came home to our family. I have mixed emotions today. So thankful and full of awe as I think about how much has gone on in his little life. I am thinking a lot about Denbele, Yoseph's birthmother. This is a hard day for her. She sacrificed a lot to give Yoseph a good life and it was a painful decision for her. She would have probably been a great mother if only her life situation was different.
This day also holds a lot of hurt for my Yoseph. Babies are supposed to stay with the mother who gave birth to them, and their hearts break too. It's only because of the sinful, horrific things of this world that adoption even has to exist. Studies of the brain say that there is a significant difference in the brain development and stress hormones of an adopted child vs. a nonadopted child for the rest of the child's life. Yoseph already displays behaviors that are typical of ex-orphans. I won't go into the details, but let's just say our parenting abilities will be challenged for sure. We're up for the challenge but it's not easy.
Today thinking about adoption is not a happy memory. Though I am of course happy Yoseph is my son an in our family, today is a day I think about the pain related to adoption.
Praying today for orphans around the world, that they will find families who, through the grace of God, can help heal their hurt.
